Mayor of Savona, NY

A Message from the Honorable Mayor of Savona, NY

Welcome to the Village of Savona website. My administration is grateful for the opportunity to serve this great community nestled just a few miles away from the great city of Emira. Savona’s location makes it a hidden jewel in the state of New York. We share a border with Campbell at the South and Bath at North, and we are just minutes away from Elmira/Corning Regional Airport. Savona is an ideal village to live, work, and start a business. First settled in 1793, the village adopted the name of a city in Italy and on October 21, 1850 the village and post office became Savona. It was officially incorporated as a village in 1883 and has been governed by a board of trustees and president (now Mayor) since that time. As we embark upon the daily journey to improve the quality of life for all who live, work, and play here, we eagerly welcome and look forward to your participation and feedback.
Regards, Mayor

History

Savona was first settled in 1793 when Thomas Corbitt built a sawmill and a tavern near the mouth of Mud Creek in anticipation of new settlers who bought land from the Pulteney Estate. The early settlement was referred to as “Tommy Corbitt’s at the mough of Mud Creek” and quickly shortened to Mud Creek. On October 21, 1850 the village and post office became Savona. It was officially incorporated as a village in 1883 and has been governed by a board of trustees and president (now Mayor) since that time.
